Description
Each film-coated tablet contains; Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) 1 mg; Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) 50 mcg; Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) 100 mg; Ferrous Fumarate 250 mg (equivalent to elemental Iron 82.50 mg); Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate 200 mcg; Cupric Sulfate Pentahydrate 200 mcg.
This particular formulation of MULTIVITAMINS + IRON (MACROBEE w/ IRON) Tablet is a therapeutic iron preparation reinforced with minerals and vitamin C for effective management of anemias among adults, adolescents, pregnant women, and the elderly. Its reliable and broad hematinic/anti-anemic efficacy is derived from the proven functional capacities of its constituted components. The primary ingredient is ferrous fumarate, a clinically proven hematopoietic factor that is most assimilable. Vitamin C and copper sulfate are also added for enhanced iron absorption and physiological utilization. Vitamin B12 and Folic acid further ensure wider anti-anemia coverage. These active substances which individually exhibit well-defined therapeutic actions and which mutually complement each other, place this superb preparation of MULTIVITAMINS + IRON (MACROBEE w/ IRON) Tablet in the class of select formulations which offer comprehensive coverage in the management of anemias.
Action
Blood is a highly complex and constantly changing tissue which is concerned with the transport of oxygen and cell nutrients, the elimination of wastes, and the maintenance of chemical equilibrium, its intricate function and composition suggest the need for a considerable variety of nutrients which must be amply provided in the diet. Whenever one's nutrition fails to offer adequate amounts of essential blood-building constituents, then supplemental hematinic/anti-anemic preparations must be given to maintain the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin. Conditions which necessitate supplemental of hematinic factors are: Iron deficiency anemia; Iron insufficiencies in periods of rapid adolescent growth, pregnancy and lactation, excessive menstrual flow, and old age; Iron deficiency anemia associated with traumatic or endogenous hemorrhages, gastrointestinal tract surgery and malnutrition; Megaloblastic anemia.
Indications/Uses
For the prevention of iron deficiency anemia especially in: periods of rapid adolescent growth, pregnancy and lactation, excessive menstrual flow, old age.
For the treatment of iron deficiency anemia associated with: traumatic or endogenous hemorrhages, surgery on the gastrointestinal tract, malnutrition.
Dosage/Direction for Use
One tablet per day as prescribed by the physician.
Contraindications
Megaloblastic anemia secondary to vitamin B12 deficiency; folic acid may obscure pernicious anemia and may produce hematologic remission while neurological damage progresses. For iron utilization disturbances, excess blood iron storage.
Adverse Reactions
As with all iron preparation, the stool may become black after administration due to the content of iron in the tablet. However, this is completely harmless.
Drug Interactions
It is not recommended to take MULTIVITAMINS + IRON and tetracycline antibiotics at the same time because these preparations affect each other adversely.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
